Legal
Terms of Service
The short version: ClearCal colour-codes your Google Calendar automatically. You pay for the plan that suits you, you can cancel any time, and we'll give you a refund if something goes wrong. Don't use the service for anything illegal or harmful.
1. Who we are
ClearCal is operated by Matt Gooch, trading as ClearCal through The Roadbook Project Ltd, based in the United Kingdom. References to "ClearCal", "we", "us" and "our" throughout these terms refer to this entity.
By using ClearCal you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. What ClearCal does
ClearCal is a Google Chrome extension that automatically classifies and colour-codes events in your Google Calendar by meeting type — external meetings, 1:1s, internal group calls, solo calendar blocks, and weekend meetings.
The extension connects to your Google Calendar via Google's official API. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your calendar data is never transmitted to ClearCal's servers.
3. Plans and pricing
ClearCal is offered on three plans:
All prices are shown inclusive of any applicable taxes. We reserve the right to change pricing for new subscribers with reasonable notice. Existing subscribers will not have their price changed mid-subscription period.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Pro subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. Your subscription renews automatically on the same date each month until you cancel.
- Billing date — the same day of the month as your original purchase.
- Failed payments — if a payment fails, we will retry and notify you by email. Access continues during a short grace period.
- Cancellation — you can cancel at any time via the billing portal. You'll keep Pro access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Lifetime plan — a single one-time payment. No recurring charges, ever.
5. Cancellation and your right to cancel
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time. To cancel, open the ClearCal extension popup and click "Manage billing", or email hello@clearcal.io.
Statutory 14-day cancellation right
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel a digital subscription within 14 days of purchase without giving a reason. However, by starting to use ClearCal you are requesting immediate access to the service. By completing your purchase you acknowledge that:
- You have requested immediate access to the digital service.
- You understand that your 14-day cancellation right is waived once the service has been provided.
If you have not used the extension at all within 14 days of purchase, you may still claim a full refund under your statutory rights by contacting hello@clearcal.io.
6. Refund policy
We want you to be happy with ClearCal. Our refund policy is as follows:
- Pro subscription — first month — if ClearCal doesn't work as described within your first month, contact us for a full refund. No questions asked.
- Pro subscription — subsequent months — we do not offer refunds for subscription periods already used. You can cancel at any time to stop future charges.
- Lifetime plan — if ClearCal stops working and we are unable to fix it within a reasonable time, we will refund your purchase in full.
- Exceptional circumstances — we review refund requests on a case-by-case basis and will always try to be fair.
To request a refund, email hello@clearcal.io with your order details. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
7. Your account
To use ClearCal you need a Google account. A ClearCal account (via Clerk) is required for Pro and Lifetime plans.
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
- You must be 13 or older to use ClearCal.
- One account per person — accounts are not transferable.
- You may not share your account credentials with others.
8. Acceptable use
You may use ClearCal for any lawful personal or professional purpose. You may not:
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of ClearCal.
- Use ClearCal in a way that violates Google's Terms of Service or API policies.
- Attempt to circumvent the plan restrictions or access Pro features without a valid subscription.
- Use ClearCal for any unlawful purpose or in a way that harms others.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep ClearCal working reliably, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. The extension depends on Google's Calendar API, which is outside our control.
We may occasionally need to suspend the service for maintenance, updates, or to respond to security issues. Where possible we will give advance notice.
If Google changes or discontinues their Calendar API in a way that prevents ClearCal from functioning, we will notify users as soon as possible and issue appropriate refunds for prepaid periods.
10. Intellectual property
ClearCal, including its code, design, and content, is owned by us and protected by UK and international intellectual property law. Using ClearCal does not grant you any ownership or licence beyond what is necessary to use the service.
ClearCal is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google. Google Calendar is a trademark of Google LLC.
11. Limitation of liability
Important: ClearCal modifies the colour labels on your Google Calendar events. It does not create, delete, move, or share events. In the unlikely event of an error, the worst outcome is an event colour being set incorrectly — which can be changed manually or by running ClearCal again.
To the maximum extent permitted by UK law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of ClearCal is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or incidental losses, including loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
12. Changes to the service and these terms
We may update ClearCal's features over time. We'll always try to give Pro and Lifetime users more, not less.
If we make material changes to these terms, we'll notify you by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of ClearCal after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you don't agree, you can cancel your subscription before the changes take effect.
13. Termination
You may stop using ClearCal and delete your account at any time by emailing hello@clearcal.io.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, with notice where reasonably practicable. In the event of termination by us without cause, we will refund any prepaid subscription period.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of ClearCal will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Before pursuing formal action, please contact us at hello@clearcal.io — we'll do our best to resolve any issue quickly and fairly.
